Hassa Family Archive

The author of the film is Zbigniew Hassa. Since the age of 14, he had worked as an electrician in Warsaw Trams (then MZK). When his daughters, Joanna and Katarzyna, were born, he decided to start filming events from the life of the family. 

An account of a trip to the zoo in Warsaw, where we can see Irena Hassa with her daughters, Joanna and Katarzyna. A close-up of the inscription “ZOO” on the gate. A squirrel jumps off a bench. We can see Joasia and Kasia crouching down, trying to lure her in. Shots of animals: monkeys in cages, an elephant, bears, a tiger, giraffes. The girls stand at the barrier of one of the enclosures. Irena and her daughters sit on a bench and eat sandwiches. Shots of other animals: fighting goats, zebras, a bison, a panther. A shot of Joasia and Kasia throwing bread to white and black swans in the water. Further scenes from the zoo: storks, seals, bathing polar bears, a polar bear pulls a tire out of the water. A performance in kindergarten. Kasia performs in a performance outfit and a hat on her head. In the kindergarten room, at a long table, there are festively dressed children. Kindergarten teachers stand at a desk on which there is a pile of flowers. A boy with a bouquet approaches them. Shots of sitting children, teachers and parents, standing against the wall. Irena helps Kasia get changed after the performance. Kasia leaves the kindergarten in the company of Joasia. Kasia and her mother ride bicycles through the housing estate.
