description

The author of the film is Maciej Drygas – the initiator of the Polish Archive of Home Films, a film and radio director, screenwriter, professor at the Leon Schiller Film School in Łódź.
After graduating from the Directing Department of the Institute of Cinematography in Moscow (WGIK), he worked as an assistant of Krzysztof Zanussi and Krzysztof Kieślowski. His films and radio programmes have been broadcast and awarded all over the world.

The film was made in 1975 in Łódź with a Soviet quarz camera borrowed from a friend. A feature etude entitled “Dream” submitted for the entrance exam to the Film School in Łódź. As Maciej recalls, he missed one point to study in his hometown, and eventually took part in an exchange with the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow (VGIK), from which he graduated in directing. The main character of the film is a sensitive and handsome painter. This role was played by Maciej’s friend, who in the future became a well-known architect and stage designer. The boy paints on the roof of a ruined building. After waking up, a girl decides to find the artist from her dream, but she is disappointed when she reaches the place. The material was shot in one of the destroyed buildings at Główna Street (currently Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego Avenue). A few years later, the ruins were demolished, and modern office buildings and shopping centers were built in their place.
