Part 1 The film was made in May 1981 during the funeral ceremony of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. Crowds of people at Piłsudski Square in Warsaw. In the background, there is Hotel Victoria. Flowers on the street. Funeral procession. Priests, standard-bearers, flags, banners, church hierarchs, politicians. The waiting crowd gets anxious when the coffin approaches. The coffin is carried by Solidarity activists. There is cardinal’s purple biretta on the coffin. People crane their necks, pick up cameras and take pictures. A short woman holds up a mirror.
