description

The author of the film is Bogdan Major (born in 1945), who, after graduating from the Faculty of Electronics at the Warsaw University of Technology, worked professionally as an electronics engineer in semiconductor technology in Toruń. From an early age he was interested in photography, and during his studies he was involved with the “Stodoła” Film Production Club, the “Kwant” Film Discussion Club, student radio broadcasters and, together with his wife Maria, the Literary Section of Radio Maryja. Bogdan bought his first camera after university to document family and social life. Maria’s brother-in-law Lech Szumigaj is also the author of some of the films or parts of them.

A film made probably in 1988 or 1989 during a trip to the Oasis of Families in Nowy Targ, organised by the Circle of Families of the Domestic Church from Sępólno. The friendly Majora and Szumigaj families walk in the mountains together with other participants of the trip – the Maliszewski family, Father Andrzej Buje, Urszula and Marian Mordel with their children, Andrzej Szykowny and Urszula Pokrzykowska with their daughter Ola. On their way to Giewont, the participants of the trip take a rest in Rusinowa Glade and pose to the camera on the rocks, later passing through Kalatówki and the Strążyska Valley. Among the tourists, there are also visible Jadwiga Pałubicka, Father Zenon Skierka’s housekeeper, and the Gwiździel family. Another stage of the trip is the centre of the Light-Life Movement in Krościenko on Dunajec and the statue of the Immaculate Mother of the Church – the Movement’s patroness – located there. During their stay in the mountains, the families also climb the Three Crowns via the Chwała Bogu Pass and return via a trail leading through the Szopczański Gorge (known from ‘The Deluge’) to Sromowce. Shots of mountain landscapes – the Pieniny, Sokolica and Dunajec can be seen. The Szumigaj family also visit Poręba Wielka, where Lech’s mother came from. The man and his family are shown around the village by Lech’s uncle, Józef Sierhart from Nowy Targ. During the walk, Józef shows his relatives the surroundings and the bridge over the Porębianka River.
