description

Zygmunt Buda was born in Poznań in 1924 and was interested in photography since his childhood. From 1941, he worked in the Poznań photographic company Foto-Stewner, founded by Ernest Stewner. After the end of the war, he worked as a photographer in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, from which, in the 50s, he was dismissed for political incorrectness. From the 60s, he worked in the Film Services Department at the corner of Marszałkowska and Krucza streets in Warsaw. Zygmunt recorded films with a business camera with a 16-millimeter tape and a private SANYO camera with an 8-millimeter tape, which he received as a gift from a family living in the USA. His sons, Jacek and Marek, as well as the next generations of the Buda family, also became enthusiasts of filming family life.

Part 1

The film begins with a board with the date “30 X 84”. Irmina lies in bed. Little Piotr sits next to her and plays with his mascot.

 Part 2

A board with the date “3 XI 84”. The monument to Fryderyk Chopin in Warsaw’s Royal Baths Park. The Buda family walks in the park. Jacek, with Irmina and Piotr, collect colorful autumn leaves and feed pigeons.

 Part 3

A board with the date “17 XII 84”. The boy rocks on a swing suspended on the door frame, installed by Jacek’s father-in-law’s brother, Wiktor. In the next shot, a big plush dog named Gabryś sits in the swing, a gift from aunt Ania (Irmina’s sister).

 Part 4

A board with the date “26 XII 84”. Christmas family gathering in Nadbrzeż. Little Piotr stands in a cot set by the Christmas tree and watches the sparkles that Irmina shows him with her mother (Elżbieta) and her sister (Ania). The family with smiles on their faces watches the child’s reaction. On the table, there are penguins on the slide, Piotr’s favorite toy, given to him by grandpa Franek. The other family members that we can see, apart from Irmina, Ania and Elżbieta, are aunt Zosia and great-grandfather Stanisław (father of the father-in-law of the author of the film).

 Part 5

A board with the date “20.01.85”. Winter outdoors, the family walks in the park. The amused boy runs around the apartment.
