description

Zygmunt Buda was born in Poznań in 1924 and was interested in photography since his childhood. From 1941, he worked in the Poznań photographic company Foto-Stewner, founded by Ernest Stewner. After the end of the war, he worked as a photographer in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, from which, in the 50s, he was dismissed for political incorrectness. From the 60s, he worked in the Film Services Department at the corner of Marszałkowska and Krucza streets in Warsaw. Zygmunt recorded films with a business camera with a 16-millimeter tape and a private SANYO camera with an 8-millimeter tape, which he received as a gift from a family living in the USA. His sons, Jacek and Marek, as well as the next generations of the Buda family, also became enthusiasts of filming family life.

Part 1

Continuation of the film from the trip to the river (Film PAFD_0037_010). Jacek spends time on the water with his mother’s friend Lidia Olender and her children Urszula and Krzysztof.

Part 2

Film shot during the birthday party of four-year-old Marek and two-year-old Jacek in 1956. The birthday boys blow the candles on their birthday cakes. Among the assembled guests, you can see Katarzyna’s (the boys’ mum) sister Janina Stafisz (Jacek’s godmother), Natalia Malinowska known as Mrs Marylka with her husband and children, Ignacy Romiński (Jacek’s godfather) with his son Mieczysław, and Teodora Chmielewska (Katarzyna’s sister) with her husband Kazimierz and daughter Jola. As Jacek recalls, Natalia Malinowska was a friend of Katarzyna’s from the occupation period. The women lived together and later worked at Wedel. Jacek is playing with a gift from his godfather in his room. Ignacy Romiński specialized in photo retouching and always remembered his godson’s birthday, whom he gifted with DIY tools. The family is walking in the garden in front of the Wilanów palace (fragment of the film PAFD_0037_004). Recurring shots of Mark and Jack’s birthday party. The children are sitting at a table on which two birthday cakes with candles are placed.
