description

This collection of films was recorded by a married couple, Paweł and Joanna Morzyszek. Amateur films shot on 8 mm and Super 8 film reels document family life: celebrations, holidays, vacations, and travels. The archive covers materials from a 20-year period, from 1968 to 1988, which allow us to follow the growing up of Paweł and Joanna’s children – Ewa and Tomek – and their granddaughters – Agata and Anna.
Part 1
The first sequence shows blurry, overexposed shots of beachgoers in swimsuits.
Part 2
A series of short diverse shots from Kovačine: seaside landscape, leisure and fun on the beach, and swimming in the sea. One can recognize Joanna, Ewa, and Tomek in the shots. The camera also captures the local campsite – pitched tents, the Morzyszek family during a meal, Joanna writing a letter. In one of the shots, the woman shows a turtle to the camera.
Part 3
A series of brief shots from urban sightseeing. The camera captures Romanesque architecture.
Part 4
The film was made during Easter 1972 in the German Democratic Republic. The first shots show a conversation with foresters in the woods. In subsequent shots, a festively dressed family is packing cars parked in front of an apartment building, and later touring the landmarks of Potsdam: the park surrounding the New Palace and Cecilienhof Palace.
