description

This collection of films was recorded by a married couple, Paweł and Joanna Morzyszek. Amateur films shot on 8 mm and Super 8 film reels document family life: celebrations, holidays, vacations, and travels. The archive covers materials from a 20-year period, from 1968 to 1988, which allow us to follow the growing up of Paweł and Joanna’s children – Ewa and Tomek – and their granddaughters – Agata and Anna.

The film was shot in Japan in 1977.
Part 1
The film begins with a sequence of shots showing the kara-mon gate leading to Nijō Castle. The camera documents architectural details. A series of shots behind the gate – a man in a suit walking along a sandy path, a Japanese garden, walls, a bridge over the moat and fragments of castle buildings, tourists resting on the steps under the roof, a pond carpeted with duckweed.
Part 2
Multiple views of the Kanmon Bridge – both close-ups and distant shots, as well as shots taken from a hilltop, showing the city panorama in the background.
Part 3
A shot of the Shimbashi Dai-ichi Hotel facade in Tokyo. Views from the Japanese city – the camera captures shop signs and pedestrians.
Part 4
A recording of a TV screen broadcasting sumo wrestling.
Part 5
A brief shot showing street traffic. A shot in front of a warehouse – three Japanese people, two men and a woman, are talking, and a fourth man gets into an elegant car.
Part 6
A series of shots of Zōjō-ji Temple (増上寺) and its surroundings. The camera captures architectural details and tourists walking around. One of the frames shows a ritual purification fountain, where a group of people is drawing water using cups on long poles.
