description

Tadeusz Friedrich was born on July 7, 1903, in Nowy Sącz. He was a multiple Polish champion in fencing and two-time bronze medalist at the Olympic Games: in Amsterdam (1928) and Los Angeles (1932). During his trip to the United States, he met his future wife, Felicja Schabińska (1909-1996), an outstanding athlete, multiple record holder and Polish champion. He took part in the Warsaw Uprising. After ending his sports career, he got involved in coaching at several fencing clubs in Kraków. Photography was his passion. In his free time, he documented family life with a 16mm film camera.
Film shot in Szczawnica in 1946.
Part 1
Worshippers are leaving the church after mass. Some of them are wearing traditional highlander clothing.
Part 2
The Friedrich daughters, Irena and Anna, are spending time outdoors with their mother. The girls are trying on embroidered dresses, playing with toys, and riding a small bicycle.
Part 3
Felicja and Irena (Kukusia) are walking in the mountains. Shots of shepherds by a campfire and mountain landscapes.
Part 4
Irena and Anusia are playing with two teenagers wearing highlander clothing (Kasia and Stasia). They lay flowers at a roadside shrine. As Irena recalls, Stasia was the daughter of the homeowners from whom the Friedrichs rented accommodation in Szczawnica. Kasia moved with them to Kraków and helped run their household for many years.
