description

The films from the Surowiec family archive were recorded in the first half of the 1980s, probably between 1983 and 1984. Most of them were shot during business trips abroad.
Part 1
The black and white film was shot during a trip to Turkey. The first shots present the entrance to King Midas’s tomb (Midas Tümülüsü) in Yassıhüyük. Next, we can see a road sign showing distances to Afyon and Emirdağ, where the following shots come from. One of the close-ups shows the minaret of the Çarşı Mosque. Then, the camera captures views of ancient city ruins, where local children are sitting and only a few tourists are walking around.
Part 2
The color film shot in Istanbul presents various views of the city, mostly filmed from a car. One of the views shows a monumental suspension bridge – possibly the Bosphorus Bridge. Further on, the camera captured the bay and ships anchored there.
Part 3
A black and white film shot during a cruise, probably on the Bosphorus Strait. The camera captures passengers and the seascape – waves and passing vessels.
Part 4
A black and white film shot from a car window in Istanbul. The camera captures the city streets, with one shot showing the Nusretiye Mosque, and later the Süleymaniye Mosque. At the end of the film, the Bosphorus Bridge appears again.
