description

Zbigniew Bełżecki (1914–2009) worked by day as a chemist in the research department of the Cracow Pharmaceutical Plant “Polfa”. His film archive consists of records of trips with his wife Jadwiga and daughter Marzena, as well as motorcycle trips around Europe.

The trips were always preceded by long preparations, and after their completion Zbigniew wrote down the recorded audio diaries and created books from them on his own. He was also passionate about nature and photography.

Part 1

A holiday trip to Międzyzdroje in 1974, the only one in which Zbigniew Bełżecki participated, who definitely preferred Masuria to the seaside. Typical genre scenes from a trip to the Baltic Sea: beach rest, bathing, walking and Marzena playing beach volleyball.

Part 2

Scenes from a trip near Zakopane around 1969, which Zbigniew and Jadwiga Bełżecki with their daughter, Marzena, took part in. Marzena poses in a swimsuit against the background of the panorama of the mountains. Bathed in the sun, sits in the snow and paints. The family walks in the forest and stands over a partially frozen stream. The film was probably made in autumn, as indicated by the vegetation stage.

Part 3

Międzyzdroje, 1974. Typical scenes from a seaside trip: rest on the beach, bathing and wading in the water, Marzena with her boyfriend.

Part 4

A picnic and rest by the river, probably 1969, and a visit to a cousin near Wieliczka. Playing with a child, bathing with an inflatable lifebuoy – a duck. Marzena lies on a mattress and sunbathes.

Part 5

Again Zakopane, around 1969. In front of the camera, we can see Marzena’s father, Zbigniew, who was most likely filmed by Marzena’s then boyfriend. The family talks, hugs, jokes and rests on blankets on the grass. As part of the picnic, the family also makes a bonfire, traditionally adding wet leaves to enhance its visual qualities. The film shows carelessness and joy of spending time together.
