description

The author of the film is Maciej Drygas – the initiator of the Polish Archive of Home Films, a film and radio director, screenwriter, professor at the Leon Schiller Film School in Łódź.
After graduating from the Directing Department of the Institute of Cinematography in Moscow (WGIK), he worked as an assistant of Krzysztof Zanussi and Krzysztof Kieślowski. His films and radio programmes have been broadcast and awarded all over the world.

The film was made during the celebration on May 1st, 1974 or 1975 in Łódź. Shots of people with banners walking in a parade along Piotrkowska Street. As the author of the film recalls, his goal was not to shoot the parade itself, but to shoot what was happening “around” the official course of the event – the film includes very popular sausages sold from cars or people abandoning the banners in favor of social gatherings. Particularly interesting for the filmmaker was the end of the walking column on Wolności Square. Shots from the balcony of an apartment at the corner of Kościuszki and Mickiewicza streets, which shows marching people, who were to join the crowd walking Piotrkowska Street. One of the men notices Maciej with a camera and bluntly expresses his opinion on filming the gathering in the yard.
