description

Eugeniusz Małanicz was born in 1904 in Zelczyn. He was an electrical engineer by education, and a passionate moviegoer and collector of films and film cameras. In 1925, he founded a travelling cinema “Oaza”, touring the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. Although the business went bankrupt after a year, the passion for cinematography remained with Eugeniusz until his death. In December 1939, he moved with his family to Warsaw and settled in Saska Kępa. An important place in his life was Giby – a village in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, to which he traveled from the 40s. There he rested, kayaked and took pictures. Eugeniusz died in Giby in 1982, and the hood of his beloved car (Hansa) rested on his tombstone.

An account of the first years of the life of Katarzyna Małanicz, the daughter of Janusz (Eugeniusz’s son) and Anna, filmed in 1961–1965 in Warsaw.
Part 1
Anna takes care of her newborn daughter in the apartment of her parents, Józef and Feliksa Blech, at 8 Elsterska Street in Saska Kępa. The mom feeds and changes little Kasia, then swaps with her husband, who takes his daughter in his arms. Anna feeds Kasia, who is a few months old, and dresses her in a dress for the first time. The girl, under the watchful eye of her mother and grandfather (Józef), walks around the apartment on her own.
Part 2
The Małanicz family walks along Elsterska Street towards the nearby Skaryszewski Park. After reaching the hill, Anna and Janusz take turns sledding down with Kasia.
Part 3
Family trip to Świder near Warsaw. This town was particularly important for the Blech family, because before the war Anna’s grandparents (Józef and Zuzanna) ran Anulka guesthouse at Zaciszna Street. Little Kasia plays with sunglasses, while Józef and Anna sunbathe on sun loungers.
Part 4
Eugeniusz and Ludwika Małanicz play with their granddaughter Kasia in front of the house in Giby, which was a very important place for the whole family. On the plot, next to the Walcownia resort, Eugeniusz built a summer house by himself, in which the Małanicz family rested from Warsaw life during holiday trips. In the background, we can also see Eugeniusz’s treasure – his beloved Hansa car. After the man’s death, the hood of the car was moved to his grave in Sejny. Ania plays with Kasia on the beach by the lake.
Part 5
Kasia plays on the balcony of the apartment at Elsterska Street. The girl learns to sweep with a sweeper and a dustpan and combs her hair. Ania watches her daughter play.
Part 6
Józef spends time with his daughter and granddaughter in Świder. Adults relax on sun loungers, and Kasia plays in the sand. In the background, we can see the car in which the family came from Warsaw.
Part 7
An account of the holiday trip to Giby. Kasia helps Zdzisław Struzik wash cars at the shore of Lake Pomorze. The man, like Janusz, was a painter and was a friend of the Małanicz couple. Kasia plays on the playground, spends time with her grandfather and on the pier by the lake.
