description

Eugeniusz Małanicz was born in 1904 in Zelczyn. He was an electrical engineer by education, and a passionate moviegoer and collector of films and film cameras. In 1925, he founded a travelling cinema “Oaza”, touring the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. Although the business went bankrupt after a year, the passion for cinematography remained with Eugeniusz until his death. In December 1939, he moved with his family to Warsaw and settled in Saska Kępa. An important place in his life was Giby – a village in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, to which he traveled from the 40s. There he rested, kayaked and took pictures. Eugeniusz died in Giby in 1982, and the hood of his beloved car (Hansa) rested on his tombstone.

The film is a record of the daily life of the Małanicz family in the years 1931–1939. At that time, the family lived in Janów in Silesia, and Eugeniusz worked as a foreman-electrician and deputy manager of electrical traffic in the “Giesche” Coal Mine.

Part 2
An account of the manifestation of the Maritime and Colonial League in Silesia. Participants of the parade walk down the street with banners “Colonies enrich nations” and “We demand overseas colonies for Poland”. In the background, we can see industrial chimneys and a mining shaft.

Part 6
A holiday by the river (most likely) Rawa. The Małanicz family is accompanied by Ludwika’s siblings and their families – her sister (Regina Surowiec née Mandowska) with her husband (Jan) and their son (Jurek) and her brother (Stefan Mandowski). Ludwika and Stefan play in the water with Ela and Janusz.
Part 7
Groups of people pose for a photo.
Part 8
Little Basia plays in the apartment, and during the walk she tries to walk independently.
Part 9
The Małanicz and Surowiec families spend time by the river. Janusz and Ela play with their dad in the water. Regina, sitting on the shore, splashes water on Ela. Ludwika and Regina’s brother smokes a cigarette on the edge. Eugeniusz and Jan Surowiec teach Regina to swim.
